| State Required Testing |
The State of Arizona provides a number of online references to inform families about the AIMS and to help students prepare for the test.
AIMS Information by Subject Area Reading: The AIMS reading test measures reading comprehension (understanding) and knowledge of literary terms. Students are required to read various passages and answer questions about them, sometimes applying literary terms such as plot, setting, point of view, etc. Writing: The AIMS writing test requires students to write a longer essay or story that is scored based on the 6 Traits of Writing. To best prepare, students should review both AIMS writing information and 6-Trait information. The following video clips are also designed to help students prepare for the AIMS test. Math: The State has mandated that to prepare for the AIMS math test, every high school student must take two consecutive years of math in their freshman and sophomore years and should be exposed to Algebra I and Geometry material. The TerraNova test provides valuable feedback on student growth and allows parents to see performance compared to other student’s in their age group. This information can help understand student’s strengths and offers direction for upcoming instruction. The TerraNova also gives students the chance to practice taking standardized tests, which include college entrance exams and other assessments they may encounter later in life. Students can review for this test by practicing math computation and problem solving, reading comprehension and vocabulary, and spelling, grammar, and the writing process
