Sequoia Choice - Privacy Policy

Sequoia Choice Distance Learning strongly protects the privacy rights of its students and only collects personal data that families choose to supply to the school. Sequoia Choice Distance Learning abides by the regulations set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Under this act, the following individuals have access to student records: (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99).

School officials with legitimate educational interest
Other schools to which a student is transferring
Specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes
Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student
Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school.
Accrediting organizations
Individuals with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena
State and local authorities, within a juvenile justice system, pursuant to specific State law.
Military recruiters, post-secondary institutions, and prospective employers as specified.

Sequoia Choice Distance Learning staff is not authorized to disclose student information to any other individuals or institutions without written permission from the student’s parent or legal guardian or the student him/herself, if over 18.

Sequoia Choice Distance Learning also upholds the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 98), which governs the administration to students of a survey, analysis, or evaluation that concerns one or more of eight protected areas. This amendment requires parental notification and/or written consent in advance of the administration of such surveys.
