Attendance Policy

Distance learning allows students the flexibility to arrange their educational schedule in many different ways.  Students may study at various times during the day and may use the weekend to get ahead or catch up in their work.  All Choice students must devote enough time to their education  to demonstrate appropriate academic progress and experience a success in their courses.

  • Students, whether they are at a Lab site, or at home, must meet the weekly attendance requirements.  Although Choice allows students to schedule their schooling according to their personal needs and preferences, minimum attendance hours must be fulfilled.  Below are the hours required.
    • Middle School = 30 hrs per week
    • High School = 25 hrs per week

  • Home and Lab-site students must log their attendance and submit it to the school at least once a week.  Students cannot submit their own attendance until they are at least 18 years old.  Parents or Lab advisors may submit attendance in several ways.

Note:  In distance learning, attendance hours are extremely important because they represent the total time spent on educational activities.  Non-attendance has a profound affect on a students learning and causes the school great concern.

Consequences for Non-Attendance (hours recorded)

The State of Arizona requires that all students with more than 9 absences per semester be withdrawn.  For this reason Choice cannot maintain the enrollment of students with excessive absences or insufficient attendance hours.

If, despite the school's repeated attempts at contact, a student falls more than 9 days behind in recorded attendance, Choice may have to automatically withdraw the student.
